Today starts the next chapter of training…. setting up a communication vehicle with my visitors.
Day 6 Tasks
Today’s focus is on connecting the website to an email service, Aweber, and providing a way for visitors to sign up for my mailing list. Obviously communicating with visitors (and potential customers) is extremely important, so getting this set up starts making things real for my new business!
Reflections from Day 6
Each day seems to be 2 steps forward and a step backward and today was no exception. I started the day with problems with the website… the main page was displaying, but only partially due to some lingering security configuration issues. The back-end management interface wasn’t accessible at all. After quite a bit of back and forth with my web hosting provider, they were able to find the error (lingering issues from when I had the site hosted elsewhere) and correct them, which fixed both the front and back-end issues.
Next it was time to connect the email service to my website. While the connection went smoothly, when I tested, the “submit” button on my lead capture form wasn’t working. I was able to resolve the problem eventually, but every day seems to be something new that I need to learn, which brings me to the real revelation from today…..
I am learning to:
- Prepare for the unexpected
- Stay calm and patient while figuring out solutions
- Leverage all of my available resources to work through the issues.
I love that I am following a step-by-step program so I can execute each day’s tasks without worrying about whether those are the right areas to focus on. That then frees up my brain to figure out all of the weird and unexpected issues that seem to pop up each day. I’m learning that having the proper mindset is one of the biggest keys for my success on this project.
I’d love to hear how you keep yourself focused and organized. Let me know in the comments below.
See you tomorrow!
Are you considering building your own online business but aren’t sure where to start or how to figure everything out? If so, I’d encourage you to check out the same program that I’m using right now to build this site and my first product. John Thornhill’s Partnership to Success program will teach you how to build a business of your very own and provide the same mentoring resources that I currently use.
